The Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves were the 57-32 winner over Christ Chapel Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-43 defeat to Christ Chapel Academy.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Saleema Tinner, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds, and Talia Mendez-Rodriguez who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. Tinner continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Even though they lost, Saint John Paul the Great Catholic were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Christ Chapel Academy only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Christ Chapel Academy, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic will be playing at home against Immanuel Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Archbishop Carroll, the Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Trinity Episcopal by a score of 46-39. This was payback for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, who suffered a 42-39 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nina Velandria led the charge by scoring 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Saleema Tinner, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Trinity Episcopal, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Senior Lyndsie Beavers was named selected as an All-Star at the Flint Hill Tip Off Tournament for her outstanding play and leadership.
