(May 18, 2024)  The John Paul Track and Field team competed at the VISAA State Championships this past Saturday in Richmond and came away with two State Champions. In the girls 400m, Chichi Obasi won in a time of 57.62, after earlier in the day finishing second in the girls long jump.  The boys 4x400m relay team of Alex Everson, Gabe Xantus, Toby Obasi, and Armaan Dhillon secured the victory in a school record time of 3:27.30.  Other All-State performances were turned in by Isobella Jameson’s second place finish in the girls discus and third place finish of the girls 4x800m relay team of Tegan Bechtel, Missy Petras, Alyssa McCoppin, and Catherine Stoeter.  State Runner ups included Elijah Thompson who finished second in the boys 1600m and 800m and James Bertram who was second in the 3200m after finishing a close fourth in the 1600m. Armaan Dhillon third place in the boys 400m in a school record time, Gus Horward’s third place in the 800m, and the third place finish by the boys 4x800m relay of Alex Everson, Ethan Garcia, Matthew Elliott, and Jacob Thompson earned them Honorable Mention All-State.  Other medal winners included Angelina Kovac in the girls discus and Austin Colvin in the boys 3200m.  The Boys Team finished in Third place overall, the highest place ever at a VISAA State Outdoor Track and Field Championship.  Congratulations to the John Paul Track and Field Team on a great finish to this season. (Saturday May 11, 2024)  The John Paul the Great Track and Field Teams competed in the Virginia State Catholic Track and Field Championships at Paul IV High School this past Saturday with the Boys team taking the victory and the girls finishing third. The boys were led by victories in the Discus by Luke Kovac with a school record throw of 131-6, Jonah Bereky in the Triple Jump, and the 4x800m relay team of Alex Everson, Ethan Garcia, Matthew Elliott, and Jacob Thompson.  Second place finishes by Chino Nnamani in the Discus and Shot Put, Armaan Dhillon in the High Jump, 400m, and 200m, Gabe Xantus in the 100m, Elijah Thompson in the 1600, Gus Horward in the 800, and James Bertram in the 3200m contributed greatly to the team’s overall win. Other medal winners for the boys included Everson in the 800m, Bertram in the 1600m, and Austin Colvin in the 3200m.  On the girls side, victories by Angielina Kovac in the Discus, Isobella Jameson in the Shot Put, and the 4x800 relay team of Missy Petras, Catherine Stoeter, Tegan Bechtel, and Margaret Dake led the team.  Chichi Obasi’s second place finishes in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and third place in the Long Jump contributed 30 points to the overall team totals.  Isobella Jameson’s second place in the Discus and Erynn Spiegeler and Alyssa McCoppin points in the 1600m and 3200m in personal best times contributed some crucial points as well.  Overall the team saw many personal best times and performances at this meet.  Congratulations to the John Paul Track and Field Team on these great accomplishments.  The team will compete next Saturday at the VISAA State Championships in Richmond.  Meet Results: https://va.milesplit.com/meets/614325-virginia-state-catholic-championship-2024/results ...

The John Paul Track and Field team competed at the 41st Annual Draper Track & Field Invitational at the St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School this past weekend.  The Boys team finished first out of 21 teams which was a first in school history.  The team was led by first places finishes from Elijah Thompson in the boys 1600m run in a time of 4:29 and the 4x800m relay team of Ethan Garcia, Jacob Thompson, James Bertram, and Alex Everson; second place finishes by Armaan Dhillon in 400m with a new school record time of 50.66 and the 4x400m relay team of Alex Everson, Toby Obasi, Gus Howard, and Armaan Dhillon.  Other medal winners include Luke Kovac in the Discus and James Bertram in the 3200m.  The Girls team finished sixth out of 24 teams and were led by first place finishes from Chichi Obasi’s in the 400m in a school record time of 57.33 and Angelina Kovac in the Discus.  Other medal winners include Tegan Bechtel second place finish in the Freshman mile with a new school record time of 5:41 and Isobella Jameson’s third place finish in the Discus.  Several other personal bests and VISAA qualifiers were turned in at the meet.  Congratulations to Boys for this historic victory and to all the new school records sent at this meet.  The team is back in action this weekend at the Virginia State Catholic Championships on Sat May 11.  Link to Full Results: https://va.milesplit.com/meets/615680-draper-invitational-2024/results ...
