The victory was nothing new for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic as they're now sitting on three straight. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nina Velandria, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Velandria is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Saleema Tinner, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Layna Thomas and Riley Thomas certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Thomas scored 17 points along with three steals, while Thomas scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-43 defeat to Christ Chapel Academy. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Saleema Tinner, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds, and Talia Mendez-Rodriguez who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. Tinner continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Even though they lost, Saint John Paul the Great Catholic were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Christ Chapel Academy only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
