Are you ready to play FALL sports?
Fall Sports are going to kick off workouts soon! Are you ready to participate? These 2 items are required for ALL STUDENT ATHLETES in order to play a sport at St. John Paul the Great:1. A fully completed VISAA sports physical (signed by parent, student-athlete, and physician) uploaded to the Athletic Trainer System (ATS). For more information on how to do this, click HERE. NOTE: JP Athletics will also accept the new VHSL sports physical form but ALL 6 pages are required to be turned in on ATS. 2. Complete the Injury & Concussion Acknowledgement Form and electronically sign on the Athletic Trainer System (ATS). This is located on the "Forms" page. Click the drop down menu, find "Injury Concussion Acknowledgment Consent" and then click "New." Girls varsity lacrosse wins VCAC title 3rd year in a row!
Girls Varsity LacrosseThe Saint John Paul the Great Varsity Girls lacrosse Team won the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference Championship on May 9th for the third straight year! They went undefeated in regular season conference play and ended the season with a Championship win of 18-10 over Trinity Christian School. Several players received all conference accolades. Senior Meghan Norko was named VCAC Co-player of the year! Meghan has signed to play lacrosse at Wagner University next year. Players named to VCAC first team all conference include: Senior Catalina O’Connor who will be playing at Benedictine College, junior Julia Foster who has verbally committed to UNC Charlotte, and sophomore Deirdre Sanchez. Second team all conference include: seniors Libby Mignati and Maya Spell! The team is Coached by Makayla Maham and Kameryn Darrington. Congratulations to the coaches and players!

JP Boys Track Win Virginia State Catholic Championship for Second Year in a Row; Girls Runner Up
CoEd Varsity Track(Saturday May 10, 2025) The John Paul the Great Track and Field Teams competed in the Virginia State Catholic Track and Field Championships at Paul IV High School this past Saturday with the Boys team taking the victory and the girls finishing second. The boys were led by victories in the Discus by Luke Kovac with a throw of 135-0,Chino Nnamani in the Shot put with a school record throw of 44-11.5, Elijah Thompson in the 1600m in a school record time of 4:23.57, Brady Brennan in the 3200m, and the 4x400m relay team of Izaiah Wingfield, Brogan Jordan, Nick Bouril, and Gabe Xantus. Second place finishes by Jonah Berkey in the Long Jump, Armaan Dhillon in the 400m in a school record time of 47.85, Elijah Thompson in the 800m, Austin Colvin in the 3200m contributed greatly to the team’s overall win. Thompson and Three Relay Teams set School Records at Draper Invite
CoEd Varsity TrackThe John Paul Track and Field team competed at the 42nd Annual Draper Invitational this past weekend on the Campus of St Stephen and St Agnes School in Alexandria, VA and came away with some fantastic performances and several school records. In the boys 4x200m relay, the team of Brogan Jordan, Anthony Fratantonio, Khae'El Williams, and Beimnet Derege set a new school record in this event. In the boys 4x100m relay, the team of Logan Inthavong, Armaan Dhillon, Jonah Berkey, and Gabriel Xantus ran 43.43 to set a new school record and finished in second place. In one of the most exciting relays of the day, the boys 4x400m relay, the team of Alexander Everson, Gabriel Xantus, Andrew Bouril, and Armaan Dhillon finished second in a new school record time of 3:20.62 with Armaan Dhillon running a 46.06 400m split on the anchor leg to just miss first place by fractions of a second. Brennan Wins VISAA State Championships; JP Boys Second, Girls Third
CoEd Varsity Cross CountryThe John Paul Cross Country team competed in the VISAA State Championships yesterday at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, VA. Senior Brady Brennan won the Boys Division 1 race in a time of 15:21 to set a new course record and lead the Boys team to a second place finish overall. Brady became the first ever John Paul runner to become an individual VISAA State Champion in Cross Country. Seniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin finished in 10th and 16th place to earn All State honors. Junior Louis Dobson and Sophomore David Hurley rounded out the top five scores for the boys team. In the girls Division 1 race, Seniors Catherine Stoeter and Erynn Spiegeler finished in 8th and 12th place and Sophomore Alyssa McCoppin in 15th place to lead the girls team to a third place finish, their highest place ever in school history at a VISAA Championships. JP Boys Win and Girls Second at Virginia State Catholic XC Championships
CoEd Varsity Cross CountryThe John Paul Cross Country team competed in the Virginia Catholic State Championships yesterday at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, VA. The boys team came away victorious by placing their top 7 runners in the top 12 places. Senior Brady Brennan led from the start and finished first in a time of 16:22 on the 5K course. Seniors Elijah Thompson (3th) and Austin Colvin (7th), Sophomore David Hurley (8th), and Juniors Jonah Berkey (9th), Louis Dobson (11th), and Jacob Thompson (12th) rounded out the top seven medal winners for the Wolves. This is the seventh consecutive Catholic States victory for the boys team. In the girls race, the JP team finished Runner-up in a competitive field of teams. The team was led by Seniors Erynn Spiegeler and Catherine Stoeter who finished 9th and 10th overall. Brennan and Stoeter Top 20 at Great American XC Festival
CoEd Varsity Cross CountryThe John Paul Cross Country team traveled down to North Carolina this past weekend to compete at the Great American XC Festival to compete against some of best teams on the east coast and came home with some great performances. In the Boys Race of Champions, Senior Brady Brennan finished 20th overall in a season best time of 15:20 on the 5k course which is also a new JP school record. Seniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin, Sophomore David Hurley, and Juniors Louis Dobson, Jacob Thompson, and Jonah Berkey all set personal best times at this meet. In the girls red race, Catherine Stoeter finished in 18th place with a personal best time. Senior Erynn Spiegeler and Junior Reese Almelor set PRs as well. Congratulations to Catherine and Brady and the entire team on a successful weekend of racing. The team is back in action this Tuesday with a home meet and opportunity to recognize our seniors.

JP Boys Cross Country Finish Fifth at Monroe Parker Invitational
CoEd Varsity Cross CountryThe John Paul Cross Country team traveled to Burke Lake Park this past Saturday to compete in the Monroe Parker Invitational Cross Country Meet. In the Boys Varsity Race, the Wolf Harriers finished in 5th place overall and were the first non-public school. Leading the boys team to this highest place ever were Seniors Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin who finished in 25th and 29th place overall. Juniors Louis Dobson and Jacob Thompson and Sophomore David Hurley rounded out the top five scores for the Wolves. In the Girls Varsity Race, the Lady Wolves finished in 19th, an improvement upon last year’s finish, and were led by Senior Catherine Stoeter and Sophomore Alyssa McCoppin who finished in 59th and 78th overall. Juniors Gianna Albanese and Margaret Dake and Senior Virginia Holloway rounded out the top 5 scores for the Lady Wolves. Girls Varsity LacrosseThe girls varsity lacrosse team finished their season as the VCAC regular season champions and proceeded to win the VCAC tournament for the second year in a row! Junior Meghan Norko was named conference Player of the Year! We had three first team all conference players: Deidre Sanchez (9th grade), Julia Foster (10th grade) and Catalina O'Connor (11th grade). Additionally, two players were named 2nd team all conference: Isabella Koler (10th grade) and Emilie Lytle (12th grade). Way to go Wolves!

John Paul’s Obasi Wins Girls 400m; Boys 4x4 Victorious at VISAA State Championships
CoEd Varsity Track(May 18, 2024) The John Paul Track and Field team competed at the VISAA State Championships this past Saturday in Richmond and came away with two State Champions. In the girls 400m, Chichi Obasi won in a time of 57.62, after earlier in the day finishing second in the girls long jump. The boys 4x400m relay team of Alex Everson, Gabe Xantus, Toby Obasi, and Armaan Dhillon secured the victory in a school record time of 3:27.30. Other All-State performances were turned in by Isobella Jameson’s second place finish in the girls discus and third place finish of the girls 4x800m relay team of Tegan Bechtel, Missy Petras, Alyssa McCoppin, and Catherine Stoeter. CoEd Varsity GolfIt was windy and cold. The temperature was quickly dropping. A few JP Wolves, were not able to capitalize and take advantage of the short and reachable 5th hole (par 5). Many settled for a bogey or a par, except for Andy and Matt making birdies. Wolves fall to the Knights this time. CoEd Varsity GolfThe JP golf team had its work cut out against them last Thursday. Our golfers kept it close all the way up to the 6th hole and then Benedictine started to pull away.
