Biography:

Coach Donald Palmer is entering his 3rd year as the Head JV Girls Basketball coach for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School.  Coach Palmer brings a passion and understanding of the game that matches his 20 plus years of coaching basketball at all levels of the game. 

Coach Palmer is the ultimate "players coach" as he is a firm believer in player and skill development.  He loves being in the gym providing opportunities for young women and men to develop and grow in all facets of the game.

 He loves coaching at Saint John Paul the Great because, "it fosters a sense of community that encourages every student to be and do their best."

Coach Washington has been coaching three different sports for over 25yrs:  basketball, football, and softball. He has coached in the Greater Manassas Football League (GMFL), and was an assistant coach to his alma mater, Osbourn High School, where he helped coach them to a State Championship over Chantilly in 2006. Many players from that championship team started with Coach Washington in the GMFL when they were 6yrs of age.

Coach Washington, himself, started on the varsity football team at Osbourn High School as a sophomore and went on to play at the next level at Saint Paul’s College as a defensive back.

His philosophy for coaching any sport is to prepare his players for the real world; to let them know how you prepare for sports, and how you conduct yourself while playing sports, are how you will conduct yourself in daily life.  He challenges each athlete to grow in character in the true spirit of St. John Paul the Great.
