Dake, Elliott, Colvin Finish Top 20 at VISAA Cross Country State Championships

(Thurs Nov 10)  The John Paul Cross Country Team traveled to Woodberry Forest, Virginia on Thursday to compete in the VISAA Division 1 State Cross Country Championships on a challenging and hilly course.  The meet was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up due to the impending storm.  The boys team finished in fourth place overall and were led by Junior Matthew Elliott and Sophomore Austin Colvin who finished 8th and 13th to earn a spot on the VISAA Division 1 All State Team.  Junior James Bertram, Freshman Jonah Berkey, and Senior James Hurley rounded out the top five for the boys finishing in 28th, 30th, and 33rd overall.  In the girls race, Sarah Dake’s 13th place finish led the lady wolves to a 9th place finish.  Sarah's performance earned her a spot on the VISAA Division 1 All State team.  The coaches were impressed with the performance of such a young team and are looking forward to next year with almost all of them returning. Congratulations to Sarah, Matthew, and Austin for being named to the VISAA Division 1 All State Team.   (Sat Nov 5)  The John Paul Cross Country team traveled to Burke Lake Park on Saturday to compete in the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.  The highlight of the meet was Senior Sarah Dake winning the girls 5K Championship race by more than 25 seconds to pace the girls team to a 3rd place finish.  Sophomore Brooke Ortega’s sixth place finish and Senior Mary Lou Moore’s tenth place finish secured them on the first team and second team all conference.  In the boys 5K championships, Junior Matthew Elliott’s fourth place finish led the team to second place overall and placed him on the first team all conference. Sophomore Austin Colvin, Freshman Jonah Berkey, Sophomore Elijah Thompson, and Junior Steven Miller finished in 8th, 11th, 12th, and 13th to be named to the second team all conference.  Congratulations to Sarah on her victory and to those being named to the all conference team.  Next up for the Wolves is the VISAA State Championships on Nov 11.

JP Boys Cross Country Win Virginia Catholic State Championship

(Wed Oct 26)  The Saint John Paul the Great Boys Cross Country team placed five runners in the top 20 to win the Virginia Catholic State Championship yesterday at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, VA.  Leading the team were Juniors Matthew Elliott and James Bertram who finished in third and eighth place respectively.  Sophomore Austin Colvin (12th), Senior James Hurley (16th), and Freshman Jonah Berkey (18th) rounded out the top five finishers for the boys team.  This is the fifth Championship win for the boys team in the last five non-covid seasons. On the girls side, Senior Sarah Dake’s sixth place finish and Sophomore Brooke Ortega 15th place finish led the lady wolves to a fourth place finish.  Junior Isabella Alicea, Sophomore Missy Petras, and Senior Mary Lou Moore rounded out the top five for the girls team.  Congratulations to the Wolves Cross Country team on a great performance!  The Wolves will compete in the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference Championships on Nov 5 before heading to the VISAA State Championships on Nov 11. JP Boys Cross Country Place Fourth at Woodberry Forest Invitational

  (Fri Sep 30)  The John Paul Cross Country team traveled to Woodberry Forest School to compete in the Woodberry Forest 46th Annual Cross Country Invitational.  The race times were moved earlier in the day to avoid the potential remnants of Hurricane Ian but that did not affect the JP Harriers.  The boys team, led by Juniors James Bertram and Matthew Elliott, and Sophomore Austin Colvin who finished in the 20th, 21st, and 26th place, paced the team to a fourth place finish out of 24 teams competing.  Senior James Hurley and Freshman Jonah Berkey rounded out the JP top five for the boys Varsity team.  In the girls race, solid performances were turned in by Senior Sarah Dake and Sophomores Brooke Ortega, Missy Petras, and Helena Fry and Junior Isabella Alicea, to round out the girls JP top five in this race.  JP will return to Woodberry Forest in Nov for the VISAA State Championships.  Next up for the team is the VCAC meet #2 at Burke Lake on Tuesday Oct 4.   Official Meet Results: https://va.milesplit.com/meets/485596-woodberry-forest-cross-country-invitational-2022/results

JP Boys First and Girls Second at JP Chaplain Invite

(Wed Sep 14)  The John Paul Cross Country team hosted the JP Chaplain Invite yesterday at Leesylvania State Park.  The boys team won the meet and were led by Juniors James Bertram and Matthew Elliott and Sophomore Austin Colvin who overall finished second, third, and forth respectively.  Freshman Jonah Berkey and Senior James Hurley rounded out the JP top five for the boys team.  In the girls race, Senior Sarah Dake and Sophomore Brooke Ortega led the girls team to a second place finish. Sophomore Helena Fry, Senior Mary Lou Moore, and Junior Isabella Alicea rounded out the girls JP top five in this race. The team will travel to Richmond this Saturday to compete in the RVA Relays. JP Cross Country Opens Season at Monroe Parker Invite

  (Sat Sep 10)  The John Paul Cross Country team competed in their first meet of the season yesterday at the Monroe Parker Invitational at Burke Lake Park.  In the Boys Varsity race, Juniors Matthew Elliott and James Bertram paced the team to a 12th place finish out of 28 schools competing in this early season meet.  Rounding out the top 5 for the JP Varsity squad included Senior James Hurley and Sophomores Elijah Thompson and Austin Colvin all running personal best times.  In the Girls Varsity race, Senior Sarah Dake and Sophomore Brooke Ortega led the young girls team to a solid early season performance.  In the boys Freshmen/Sophomore race Freshman Jonah Berkey finished in 13th place to earn a medal for his effort.  This was a great start to the season with many of the JP harriers completing the 2.98 mile course in a personal best time.  The team is back in action on Wednesday when they host the JP Chaplin Invite at Leesylvania State Park.
