(Feb 17, 2024) The John Paul Indoor Track team traveled to Richmond on Saturday to compete in the VISAA State Championships on the campus of St Christopher School and had some outstanding performances. The meet started with the Boys 4x800m relay team of Elijah Thompson, Matthew Elliott, Alex Everson, and Gus Howard winning in a school record time of 8:13.88. The meet finished with the boys 4x400m relay team of Nick Bouril, Tobi Obasi, Everson, and Howard winning in a school record time of 3:32.10. Both teams achieved first team All State. Bouril’s third place finish in the 500m in a school record time of 1:06.90 earned him Honorable Mention All-State. Other scorers for the boys team included James Betram’s 4th in the 3200m, Armaan Dhillon’s 5th in the 300m, Elijah Thompson’s 7th in the 1000m, and the 4x200m relay team of Tobi Obasi, Gabe Xantus, Beimnet Derege, and Armaan Dhillon’s 7th place finish. Overall the boys team finished 4th (out of 27 schools), the highest place finish for a JP Indoor Track team. On the girls side, second place finishes from the 4x400m relay team of Catalina O'Connor, Camila Barrera-Castro, Isobella Jameson, and Chichi Obasi and Chichi Obasi in the 500m earned them Second Team All State. Chichi Obasi’s time of 1:18.15 broke her own school record by over a second. Other scorers for the girls included the 4x800m relay team of Isobella Jameson, Meghan Norko, Helena Fry, and Valentina Barrera in 5th and the 6th place finish of Obasi in the 300m. The girls team finished 9th out of 22 schools. Congratulations to the JP Indoor Track and Field Teams for some outstanding performances in the 2024 VISAA State Indoor Track Championships.
