The John Paul Cross Country team competed in the Virginia Catholic State Championships yesterday at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, VA. The boys team came away victorious by placing their top 5 scores in the top 17 places. Senior James Bertram’s surge over the last mile of the race led to his first place finish in a time of 16:56 on a tough 5K course. Juniors Elijah Thompson (4th) and Austin Colvin (8th), Senior Stephen Miller (14th), and Sophomore Louis Dobson (17th) rounded out the top five scores for the Wolves. This is the sixth consecutive Catholic States victory for the boys team. In the girls race, the JP team finished fifth in a competitive field of teams. The top five included Juniors Missy Petras, Erynn Spiegler, and Katria Carter, Senior Isabelle Alicea, and Sophomore Gianna Albanese. In the boys JV race, Ethan Garcia finished first and Matthew Sjurset, Brogan Jordan, Joseph Roberts, Robert Fuller all medaled and in the girls race, Summer Montes and Eilish Jameson medaled for the Wolves. Congratulations to James Bertram and the boys team on this great achievement and victory. The team will next compete in the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference Championships on Nov 1 before heading to the VISAA State Championships on Nov 9.
